A work of light as a peaceful act of resistance: the works of Nidaa Badwan, winner of the seventh Pannaggi/Nuova Generazione Award at the Simonelli Group Management Center
There is a light that speaks louder than a thousand words. A silence that becomes color, a look, a gesture. And photography that becomes “medicine” for the soul, ready to catch glimmers of light and hope everywhere. It is from this silence, chosen as a form of protest and resistance, that the art of Nidaa Badwan, winner of the seventh edition of the Pannaggi/Nuova Generazione 2024 Prize.
This year Simonelli Group, Main Sponsor of the prize, hosted an exhibition of some of Nidaa Badwan’s most significant works. The initiative is organized in collaboration with the Friends of Palazzo Buonaccorsi Association and the Civic Museums of Macerata.
But making this appointment even more special was the exhibition of an unpublished work, created during the artist’s long months of self-reclosure in Gaza: a room transformed into the world, into a silent manifesto for human and women’s rights, In poetic and political act together.
Class of 1987, born in Abu Dhabi, raised in Gaza and adopted from the Marche region, Nidaa Badwan has found her most powerful language in photography. A language that – as Professor Paola Ballesi – “tells us through her eyes, her colors, her body that becomes part of the work. An aesthetic of hope, capable of finding light even in the deepest darkness.”
“We are honored to host Nidaa Badwan’s works in our spaces, as well as all the winning works from past editions of the Pannaggi/Nuova Generazione Prize,” says Nando Ottavi, President Simonelli Group. “Supporting the art, creativity and talent of new generations is part of our commitment and mission.”
