Coffee Science Foundation (CSF) has announced that coffee machine manufacturer Simonelli Group (owner of the Victoria Arduino brand) will become the organization’s first partner, beginning a new four-year research project. CSF is a research organization launched by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) in April 2019 and is dedicated to growing coffee knowledge and securing the future through research, knowledge creation, and sharing.
“Innovation and research are core values of our identity,” said Fabio Ceccarani, Simonelli Group CEO. These values have guided the evolution of our espresso machine and coffee grinder for generations, helping to build our knowledge of coffee science. Now it is time for the next step. This partnership with Coffe Science Foundation represents our deep commitment to the scientific process, our love of espresso, and our desire to understand it better. We seek to share our knowledge and make a concrete contribution to the evolution of scientific know-how in the coffee community.”
Simonelli Group’s partnership to CSF is the most important contribution so far, the foundation being formally established in April 2019. Starting in a new year, an extensive research project aimed at understanding the impacts of variations in espresso extraction will begin. The research project will use modern sensory analysis tools, data analysis, and consumer research to create a scientific understanding of standards, espresso extraction techniques, and the resulting impacts on coffee flavor.
“Simonelli Group’s participation in the Coffee Science Foundation is a pioneering and visionary contribution that comes at a critical time-science and research are more important than ever in keeping our industry sustainable,” said Peter Giuliano, CSF executive director.
With Simonelli Group’s collaboration, broader research will be initiated to support the mission of promoting and communicating the science of coffee and ensuring the future of coffee.
“Simonelli Group has long been committed to supporting the international specialty coffee community through SCA and the World Barista Championship, and this contribution is a demonstration of that commitment, particularly in the area of science and research,” said Yannis Apostolopoulos, CEO of SCA.
The Coffee Science Foundation’s research findings for coffee science will be presented at upcoming SCA events, webinars and publications. To learn more about the Coffee Science Foundation, visit coffeesciencefoundation.org
