“Starting in the 1970s, when we began to deal with international markets, we understood how investments in innovation related to the environment and energy conservation-as well as, of course, in technologies-would be decisive in meeting future challenges and generating added value. Consequently, we saw our competitiveness increase with positive effects on turnover, exports and employment. We had the courage to be sustainable, also strong in our culture of innovation, environmental protection and sustainability,” – specified Nando Ottavi, President of Simonelli Group.
“For more than 10 years we have been undertaking further concrete reflection on the concept of sustainability and in particular on reducing the environmental impact of the company and our products”-said Fabio Ceccarani, CEO of Simonelli Group. “The company has set the goal of becoming totally green by 2025 through the upgrading of its photovoltaic system and activities aimed at reducing energy consumption. We have also worked on reducing the environmental impact of our products by using the standardized Life Cycle Assessment methodology, which has enabled us to lower CO2 emissions by 23 percent during the entire life cycle of our machines – compared to previous models. In addition, we have developed technologies aimed at recovering waste energy to reduce energy consumption by more than 35 percent.”
“ Sustainability is an integral part of the Simonelli Group strategy from the point of view of product, process, culture and development of the territory, people and the environment”-explained Manuela Feliziani, Sustainability Advisor Simonelli Group. “The company has been able to create over the years a strong network of partners and stakeholders who share the same principles and values: to innovate and develop technologies for espresso coffee extraction that enhance the work of the entire supply chain in a sustainable way. In addition to having adopted the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, we are working to improve the quality of life and well-being of the area where we are located through targeted actions in health, culture and sports, while keeping in mind our priorities, which are inclusion, youth and equal opportunities.”

The Sustainability Award (aimed at Italian companies with a turnover between 10 and 600 million euros) aims to recognize the value of companies that have distinguished themselves through sustainable development, social responsibility and respect for the environment. Companies were selected in two stages to then draw up the final ranking of the TOP#100 business experiences that have brought innovation to their sector while implementing sustainability-oriented behavior. Although there is still a lack of a single European regulation, rating agencies have developed tools to measure the sustainability of companies through environmental, social and governance (ESG) parameters with precise methodologies: the Score and ESG ratings, on the basis of which the companies participating in the Sustainability Award were evaluated.
